Personal Kiatsu®

The flow of living energy, or Ki, is strong in a healthy body. By unifying mind and body, we can use the techniques of Kiatsu to maintain that flow, or restore it when the body becomes weakened due to illness, injury, or overuse. Kiatsu is a method of widespread application in helping us live a happy, healthy life.

Kiatsu - Published Clinical Study
A clinical study on the benefits of Kiatsu is available online. In addition to an abstract and introduction, there is a full description of the methodology, and detailed results. The full study title is "Beneficial Effects of Kiatsu™ with Ki Training on Episodic Migraine: An Exploratory Study". It was published in 2021 in the Pain Research and Management Journal published by Wiley.

What Is Kiatsu?

Begin by calming your mind so Ki flows freely though you. Then place your hands, fingertips, or thumb tips on a particular area of the body without pressing hard or putting strength in your own hands.

After a short time, the body's own healing process becomes activated.

As you proceed, there is no need to massage, no need to do anything but maintain contact and continue to concentrate on remaining calm so Ki flows strongly.

What Happens In a Ki/Kiatsu Class?

Classes generally last two hours. In the first hour, you perform simple activities with a partner to learn how to calm your mind so Ki flows. This is quite similar to Ki Development class.

In the second hour, you take turns practicing Kiatsu with a partner of your choosing.

Because of the small class size, you will get direct assistance from the instructor whenever needed.

Getting Started in the Ki/Kiatsu Program

You may start your study of Kiatsu at any time. Your first several classes will be treated as an introduction. Wear a cotton T-shirt, warm-up pants, and socks. Feel free to bring a notebook and pen to take notes.

There is a registration form required. You may fill one out online ahead of time and bring it with you. In addition, there is a contract stating that Ki/Kiatsu training is for your personal development and must not be taught professionally. Enrollment is limited to persons age 21 or older.

The curriculum is outlined in a handbook that all students receive. The program consists of weekly Ki/Kiatsu classes in conjunction with intensive weekend seminars that are held several times a year in Portland, Oregon and, occasionally, other locations.

Promotion from first year to second year requires attending three weekend seminars and a test in Ki development. Graduation from the school requires an additional three weekend seminars and additional tests in Ki Development. Students may continue training after graduation.
